Diana F+

Just under a year ago my friend Alisha let me borrow her Diana F+ toy camera. Just today I finished the roll I started back in the spring and got it printed. Sorry it took me so long Alisha...but you can have your camera back now! Here are a few pictures I thought turned out pretty cool.

Christmas Camouflage

Final project for Space Research: Subtle Intervention. "Assume one of your jobs is pointing out aspects of a place, site, or space that might not be apparent. You may also think about altering the space by adding something unexpected." Thanks to Emilija for being willing to sit in the same position for a couple hours while I painted over her and thanks to Gwen for helping me throughout this project (driving to get white clothes, painting, checking painting accuracy, making me laugh)! Farewell Space Research!

This is my last project of my first semester of college! On Friday I'm off to NC for a MONTH of vacation. If I do any projects at home over break I'll post them for sure. Otherwise, see you in 2011 (with all new classes)! Happy (almost) new year!!!

Final product!!

Last drawing assignment :(

Just yesterday I had my last critique in drawing class...forever (until I take another one..)! I've had so much fun beginning to learn how to draw, I'm sad the class is ending. This was our last homework assignment- to draw 5 portraits. The angles assigned were straight on, left and right profile, and left and right 45°. Thanks to Alisha, Emilija, and Hannah for sitting as models for me!

Hand Hand Foot Foot

Drawing homework assignment: draw two hands and two feet.
My feet in the mirror (I need to clean the mirror..)
Hang loose, yo

Femme (when all else fails, say the word in another language for creativity points!)

I have a journal that I write and sketch in often. The other day I was trying to draw a silhouette of the female figure and found it very difficult. I kept getting these super strange figures that looked like ghosts or pillsbury dough boys or something. When I thought about why it was so difficult for me to draw, I realized that perhaps it was because the female form is generally reduced to a circle, a triangle, and a few rectangles--like in a restroom sign. No wonder it was so foreign.
I don't think this is a strong piece by any means. It is really just a reflection of an idea I was trying to focus on during my 3-hour drawing class. Sometimes I like to see what comes of a long period working on an abstract piece. I try and challenge myself to not stop moving my hands around the page. There is a cool moment once I get into the zone when my hand moves before my brain knows where its going..if that's possible.
